“When you want something, the universe conspires in helping you achieve it!
It's actually true. I even call it the ultimate formula to getting what we want in life. It happened to me many times before. The first step in getting what you want is to BELIEVE that you will have it, and the universe will conspire for you to have it.
Pretty easy? Think again.
How many of us really believe that we will have a million bucks in our account, that we will be millionaires, that we will land our dream job, or that we will meet Mr. Right soon. This is because growing up, our parents, the people around us, our environment has already stopped us from dreaming big.
“Don't hope for too much, son, you don't want to be disappointed in the future.” “Why don't you apply for a steady 8 to 5 job instead of pursue your acting or singing career. You may not like it at first, but it's stable and will give you security.”
This was my thinking before. But guess what, If you already think that YOU CAN'T DO IT, then definitely, NOTHING will ever happen to you.
If something was indeed meant for you, if it was your destiny, you'll never really know, because you already said so. You already sealed your fate.
It's Not Yet Too Late
It's not yet too late too change your mindset and pursue your destiny.
I was influenced by my husband when I read the book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
The book espoused positive ideas like, “visualize your dreams, and you will achieve them” “place your order in the universe, and it will give you what you wish for”.
But you also need to believe in the idea that you can have anything you want, you need to unlearn negative notions placed by society in you, you need to view every situation in a positive manner, and that's when the universe will start listening.
An Experiment that Worked
I tried making one of the exercises in the book, just to see if it works.
In March 2013, I placed a dream board - it's actually just a plain cork board - in my office cubicle and pinned a picture of (1) a professor teaching in class and (2) the dashboard of a Chevrolet Spark.
I looked at the dream board every day, tried my best to think happy thoughts - with a little bit of pixie dust - and really believe that something good will happen.
In June of the same year, I received a call from a well-known college near my home and asked if I'm available for a demo.
That same school year I started teaching.
What you need to understand is, ever since I was in college, I wanted to teach.
However, I didn't believe in my own dream. I had a lot of reasons: my course was not Education, I didn't think I had the credentials, I didn't know the right people.
I didn't know where and how to start achieving my dream.
But doing this little exercise made me realize that the universe did conspire, and answered my prayer.
Some may call it the universe, I'd like to think that it was God, in his perfect time, telling me, “this is the right time for me to call You and teach.”
Now I pinned 2 pictures, the first one was already achieved. I didn't get my Chev spark, but on November of that same year, a friend of ours was selling his 1996 Corolla. It was a very memorable car for me and my husband, and we needed a car at that time.
So, lo and behold, that same year, we now have a car.
Don't get me wrong I'm still praying for that car. And I know that, in the future, I'll be saying hello to a brand new, green Chev spark.
The lesson here is, it's never too late for you to have what you want.
It really depends not on anyone or anything, but only you. You may be thirteen or thirty or sixty.
Go ahead, start now... and may your dreams come true!
